Abdominal Strengthening Tip

When you tap into your core strength, you gain access to deeper and more efficient resources. This is true not only for your core values and self, but also for your physical body. When the core muscles are weak, you tend to use your peripheral muscles which in turn is like trying to turn churn out more than they were meant to handle, creating knots in your muscles and blocks.

Abdominal exercises are not just for looking trim in a swim suit. They work to invigorate and bring back to life your core, your breathing, your sense of empowerment. It also helps you to maintain good posture and allows more more oxygen into your lungs as well helping with nagging back problems if done correctly.

For the beginner:

To start working these muscles, lie on your back, knees bent, and hands clasped behind your neck. Begin by taking a deep breath in, and press your back into the floor as you tilt the pelvis upwards.

Exhale and lift your chest and shoulder blades off of the floor slightly, keeping your neck long and supported by your hands.  Draw your lower abdominals in towards the spine and contract the muscles. Hold the position.  Now inhale, either returning your chest to the floor or staying lifted.

Repeat the same process until you have done 10 to 12 more reps.

Always take it slow when, keeping your lower back long and stretched, your pelvis area tucked, and your shoulders and neck relaxed to prevent strain.

Try to exercise your abdominals every other day,  gradually building up the number of reps each time, but don’t overdo it in the beginning if you are just starting out.

Eventually, even without a strict diet you can see improvements in the way your clothes fit and more importantly in how you feel.

Before you know it you’ll be doing 100 reps in no time at all.

  1. Hey

That’s a great article. I think it’s important that the abs are addressed as not being just for aesthetic purposes, but more important for reinvogorating your core, breathing and your sense of empowerment - like you said.

Great blog by the way :)
