Experience Joy by Learning to Live in the Moment

Experience Joy by Learning to Live in the Moment

Well it’s finally SPRING! I don’t know about you but just knowing that makes my heart sing as I look forward with anticipation to all of the wonderful things that are yet to come….. warm weather, flowers in bloom, vacation getaways and of course the list goes on and on.

But in contemplating about this I began to realize that many of us tend to have a fast forward mentality in regards to those things we plan for future timetables in our life. As if somehow just a change in the seasons or time of year offers us a more perfect opportunity for reaching our goals and desires.

For example, I could hear my own self saying the other day,  “I’m so tired of all of of this snow! I can’t wait until it is finally warmer so I can get outside more to do what I really enjoy doing. ”

Having made a statement like that, I came to realize that sometimes our lives can become an avalanche of excuses and roadblocks for not living in the present, which only results in putting things off, that a simple inconvenience such as snow from time to time,  should NOT prevent.

While it’s always nice to have things to look forward to, so often those same things that we associate bringing us happiness at a later date, can be realized now by simply having a different mindset.

For example, if you are an avid runner or enjoy walking, what is so awful about taking a brisk walk or running outside in the cold if dressed properly? Or perhaps taking a vacation in the winter, versus spring or summer? Many top spa destinations, as well, are absolutely gorgeous in the winter or fall and it only requires looking at things from a different perspective.

This same analogy can also apply to the other things we procrastinate on in our lives, which only serve to hold us back from reaching our full potential and making positive changes, thinking “tomorrrow will be a better day to start“. Why is it that for many of us, tomorrow ends up becoming months to even years?

OK, who’s kidding? We all like to see the the warm weather approach, especially if you live in Ohio, as we have seen more than our fair share of snow this year. But just like the weather, our life will never be constant BLUE SKIES  and warm temperatures,  nor will the flowers always be blooming. But it’s rather more important how we approach our outlook on life that really counts here.

Living in the moment is a choice. Maybe your moment isn’t so great right now but I bet if you dig deep enough, there is always a silver lining that can be found most anywhere and at anytime.  Again it’s all about mind over matter.

It’s always nice and equally important to plan for our future but doesn’t every day lead to our future? Why not begin this day living in the present, YOUR own moment and I guarantee in doing that, you will soon experience more joy in your life.

  1. It’s true that the cold weather shouldn’t put you off doing the things you love, but it’s a lot easier to persuade yourself to stay inside in the warm when it’s freezing and uninviting outside. I am very happy that spring is here, it makes me feel warm and relaxed just seeing the sunshine!

  2. Definitely an upbeat message after the doldrums of winter!
And vacations are definitely the way to get a new perspective on life.

  3. Great statement “Living in the moment is a choice. Maybe your moment isn’t so great right now but I bet if you dig deep enough, there is always a silver lining that can be found most anywhere and at anytime”

  4. Great advice about learning to live in the moment. We never really arrive anywhere final in life so it’s important to enjoy the journey :)

Having said that, I do love it when the fine weather comes around. You can’t beat the feeling of a warm sun on your skin, after the cold Winter months…

By the way, it always amazes me when a little light rain puts people off going running. I love those conditions, the rain keeps you cool! ~ James
