Developing a sense of PASSION for what you do
I’ve always considered it to be an enormous priviledge to be be part of the spa industry, a field that I love, which has meaning for me both personally and professionally as well as one that I hope, makes a difference in other’s lives to enrich their sense of health and wellness.
While it has been a rewarding experience, I also know that many of us, for the most part, do not come away with any sense of fulfillment at all, from our jobs.
Perhaps your work or profession is nothing more than a means to put food on the table or pay bills. And only afterwards do you get to come home to enjoy what really matters to you…. spending time with your spouse, playing with your children, or perhaps partaking in an activity you enjoy …. you name it, the list goes on and on.
But since we spend so much of our time at our jobs and profession, no matter what that is, its important to try and enjoy our time there as much as possible.
Take a couple moments right now to think how to make your work life more enjoyable. Is there an aspect of your job that you like? Do you enjoy the people you work with? Can you bring some of what you do enjoy to the workplace? Perhaps you love to bake and could bring goodies to the office to share with your co-workers, or share your hobbies with others, during a lunch break.
Do you feel there is a benefit to society with what you do? If so what is it? Can you try to think about that as you go about your day?
Sometimes its very easy to only look at the negative instead of the positive in what we do to make a living. However, I always tell people if you can’t find anything to smile about, at your job, it could be a signal that its time to move on….
So on the flip side of this don’t let yourself be trapped in a profession you don’t enjoy anymore and be afraid to change. Fear has a way of crippling our thoughts and actions. Many times it’s a matter of just changing our mindset and putting that same energy we use at work to get the job done, into looking for a more enjoyable profession.
It’s so very important to develop a passion in life for the things we do. And that also hold true for both work and home. If you no longer feel passion, that driving force behind everything you do, again re-examine what you could be doing differently and make the necessary changes to facilitate that. Get rid of the words “never”, it’s impossible” or ”I can’t” because those words should not be part of anyones vocabulary. Using that sort of negative self-talk will only keep you trapped in your current situation.
Waking up every day feeling a sense of depression, dread or doom is not really LIVING at all. While we are all dealing with different sense of circumstances, God certainly did not place us on this earth to be miserable. It’s important to explore why we do feel unhappy and addressing those issues that are holding us at bay.
It’s important to be happy. Study after study suggests people who strive to be happy and think positively tend to live longer lives.
So today, try to find one thing about your work or profession that makes you happy and focus on THAT instead of all the other negative energy you sometime allow to get in the way.
As always, mind over matter is half of the battle here.
Do you have a personal experience of self-discovery and growth with making postive changes in your own life, whether it be in the workplace or at home, that you’d like to share with others? If so, we’d love to hear your comments and feedback on this topic, so why not chime in?
