Happy Holidays from GetawaySpas.com this season
As founder of GetawaySpas.com and this, our sister blog, SPAPARAZZI, I wanted to take this time to offer a bit of reflection, only because it’s so easy for most of us to get caught up in the material aspects of the holidays, rather than appreciate what is really important, this time of year.
I’m not sure what your plans are this holiday season but DO know that like many of you, it’s very easy to get wrapped up into the commercialization of the holidays, whether that be Christmas, Hanukkah, or ringing in the New Year. I for one have been guilty of that in the past.
However, thank goodness, by the time the New Year rings in, we can all breathe a sigh of relief, that is of course until the credit card statements start coming in, for a reality check as to how much we really spent! LOL
I know growing up in Ohio, as a child, many years ago, holidays seemed to be much less stressful. Of course we were void of many of the distractions that one sees today…..but it absolutely was easier to focus and far less hectic, wasn’t it?
I for one miss all of that. My dear mother passed away from cancer 12 years ago and at times it seems like only yesterday. But it certainly makes me long to re-live those past moments at the holidays, that are now gone. Well I shouldn’t say gone, just different, never the same.
Of course I still absolutely LOVE the holidays, but I tend to look at it a little differently now. I take some time to breathe and enjoy my time with family and perhaps friends, I haven’t seen in a good while.
And I make a point to appreciate the little things that really count, around me, and not be so wrapped in all the hype that goes into the holidays, represented by the media.
I’d rather reflect on the true meaning of the holiday season and what really IS important in life. Because no one knows what tomorrow will bring for any of us. If you do this one thing, I guarantee you’ll be less stressed than if you hadn’t. It just helps put things into a healthy perspective.
So why not end the year on a positive note and do something really good for yourself mentally, spiritually and physically and for others in need?
There is so much, many of us take for granted …. including myself, but there isn’t a better time to set things right than NOW. A gift doesn’t always need to have a price tag associated with it.
Sometimes the BEST gift can be just a phone call to a friend or a plate of cookies to a neighbor, or a visit to a local nursing home to someone who may otherwise, not receive even ONE visitor, this holiday season. Not only could it bring the greatest joy to them but it can also prove to be a most humbling experience for you.
Have a blessed holiday season from all of us here at GetawaySpas.com
