Take time this Valentines Day to LOVE Yourself
Valentines Day is once again upon on us, this February 14th, but I can’t help wonder why it is, that we get so busy making sure we’ve conveyed just the right sentiments of love to others close to us this day, only to neglect taking the time to love ourself in the process?
We all know the importance of letting others know how much we appreciate them, how special they are to us as we spend thousands of dollars each and every year, at this time, the world over. But for many of use we often give ourselves the short end of the stick.
I myself am guilty of this at times and would be the first to admit it. So many things take precedence in our lives that we often live day to day just going through the motions. Whereas the term, “don’t put off tomorrow what you can do today” starts to take on a whole new meaning.
And yes, there can be a positive spin on that phrase. We’ve all heard and correlated that with DON’T PROCRASTINATE but too often even that statement can get the best of us.
For many of us it that might equate to ”I need to get this and that done TODAY and what I need to do physically, emotionally and spiritually for myself, well that’s just going to have to take a back seat for the time being.”
The problem with that last statement is often times it becomes simply a habit that’s hard to break.
For example in the past few months I have been involved in projects that have taken up quite a bit of my time. It’s been nothing for me to stay up into the wee hours of the morning, literally. While a couple nights here and there won’t hurt anyone, I have had endless nights where I’ve made this an all too familiar practice. Where 4AM to 5AM had become my normal bedtime.
While the projects are now all but completed, during this time, even though I felt a sense of accomplishment with the prior, my physical and emotional self suffered immensely. So was it a good trade off? Probably not.
No longer did I have the energy to exercise at the gym, just too tired to go and my moods suffered. My dear hubby would be all too glad to fill you all in on that one. LOL
So for the past week I have taken steps to get back to some sense of normalacy. And for the most part its working extremely well.
Today my dear husband took the time to make me feel special, wining and dining me, showering me with flowers, chocolates and a card sharing his love and ongoing devotion. And it felt wonderful.
But the best GIFT I am giving myself this Valentines Day is taking a deep breath, realizing that the laundry can indeed wait, as well as numerous other chores and thank God above for helping me to realize how I also need to take time to take care of this gift he has given me, the gift of self.
This Valentines Day take a moment to reflect on that thought, meditate on it. As I am soon approaching age 50, I’ve also come to the realization that life is too short but we surely don’t have to make it any shorter by cutting ourselves short of a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes what we think we need isn’t really what we need afterall.
Everything has cause and effect in this life so learn to tune into what your body is telling you no matter how often the other gravities of life, tend to pull you in the other direction sometime.
So for now, I’m going to draw myself a nice hot bath tonite, turn off the cellphone and get off of this computer. And while at it, indulge in some of those delecatable chocolates my husband gave me this evening. I’m sure they are calorie free... and you don’t mind if I just keep telling myself that, do you? LOL
Oh well it is Valentines Day afterall. Isn’t it all about indulging anyhow?
